The town of Nieuwport, in Belgium, has been the setting for a new edition of the J80 World Championship this week, a competition in which the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife has been represented with the participation of Leonardo “Nete” Armas aboard the Dorsia Sailing Team. The Alicante boat was quite regular throughout the tests held, finishing the competition in a meritorious third place.

The J80 World Championship held in Nieuwport had the participation of 58 boats, and the only representative from Lanzarote in the competition was Nete Armas. The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailor sailed aboard the Dorsia Sailing Team of the Real Club de Regatas de Alicante, sharing a team with José M. Ruiz Sánchez, Nuria Sánchez Nomdedeu, Juan Manuel Barrionuevo Vallejo and Daniel Fructuoso Rosique.

A total of 13 races were held throughout the week of competition, all of them quite competitive. The conditions were quite favorable on the first day, with Nete Armas' boat signing two partial victories and a second place, provisionally placing itself at the head of the J80 World Championship classification.

The wind conditions decreased throughout the week, which harmed the sailing of the Dorsia Sailing Team, although always remaining among the top classified. Until the last day they maintained their options to fight for the title of champion, finally finishing the competition in a more than meritorious third place, just one point behind the French boat DentaLIAssist and eleven points behind the Spanish Eurofrits Aviko & Newind Foods.

The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the Board of Directors wish to congratulate Nete Armas for the magnificent third place achieved in the J80 World Championship held in Belgium, demonstrating once again the good work of the club's sailors in international events. “Nete Armas once again places the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife among the best clubs internationally”, says Julio Romero.
