The Cabildo of Lanzarote approved on Friday in plenary the regulatory bases of the subsidies that the Corporation plans to allocate to self-employed and micro-enterprises to alleviate the effects of the crisis derived from the Covid-19 pandemic, which will be available "from next March."
The president of the first institution, María Dolores Corujo, recalled that the aid is initially endowed with a budget item of six million euros, but stated that her intention is to progressively increase that amount through treasury surpluses, now that the Cabildo is "up to date on payments to suppliers" and complies "with the financial controls of both the Ministry of Finance and the Government of the Canary Islands."
In this sense, Corujo lamented the “terrible management carried out by the previous government group, which has so far prevented the launch of this type of tool aimed at supporting the sectors most affected by the current socioeconomic situation.”
The president is confident that the subsidy regulations can be ready throughout next week and that the aid can reach its recipients as soon as possible. “When the work is done well, we are in a position to help those who need it most in such difficult times as the one we are experiencing,” she pointed out.
The Councilor for Commerce and Consumption of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Carmen Guadalupe, also spoke along the same lines, detailing the necessary requirements to apply for the aid, emphasizing the ease and agility when processing it. “We have defined a procedure with the fewest number of obstacles to reach the beneficiaries as soon as possible, without losing the rigor and due control of public funds,” she said.
The councilor also stressed that “these subsidies are a complement to the set of actions launched by the different administrations to alleviate the brutal economic impact of the economic crisis on our business fabric, especially in small businesses, which is aggravated as the days go by.”
