The Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard in Lanzarote has initiated an investigation against a resident of Charco del Palo, in the municipality of Haría, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of animal abuse.
The investigation arises after numerous episodes of attacks perpetrated by at least three dogs owned by the investigated party were documented. These attacks allegedly affected both domestic animals and cats belonging to feline colonies. As a result of these attacks, the deaths of at least four cats (three of them domestic cats identified with a microchip, and one cat belonging to a feline colony) have occurred, and two dogs owned by neighbors in the area were also injured, one of which died from its injuries.
These facts became known when a neighbor reported the death of three of their cats allegedly at the hands of two of the investigated party's dogs. This person, according to their neighbors, lets their dogs roam the streets without control and without supervision, entering private plots and gardens of the urbanizations in the area and even accessing private terraces. The affected neighbors report that this person may have up to a total of eight dogs. According to the complaint, the animals not only ended the lives of the felines, but there was also an attempted attack on the owner of a house, who managed to take refuge in time in their home, without suffering any personal injuries.
In the following days, new complaints were received detailing other similar episodes, perpetrated by the same dogs in recent months. These testimonies, along with graphic material provided by those affected, show a continued pattern of dangerous behavior, generating concern among neighbors and putting at risk neighborly coexistence and safety.
The Seprona has taken on the investigation, gathering statements from complainants and witnesses, and analyzing the photographic evidence documenting the attacks.
As a result of the investigation, proceedings have been initiated which have been sent to the Investigating Court on duty in Arrecife, as well as to the Environmental Prosecutor's Office in the same locality.
The authorities continue to work to clarify the facts and determine the corresponding legal responsibilities, with the aim of guaranteeing the safety and well-being of both animals and the neighbors of Charco del Palo.
