The Arrecife seafront and the natural environment of El Cable were the setting this Saturday for a new edition of the Ponte en Marcha walk, a successful initiative that is part of the Active+Vital Rejuvenation Plan promoted by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Area of the Elderly and Intergenerational Relations. Thanks to this action, more than half a thousand seniors enjoyed a guided tour by the Senderismo Lanzarote team.
Before the walk, both the president of the Island Corporation, Oswaldo Betancort, as well as the councilor Nori Machín and some representatives of the host municipality, including the mayor Yonathan de León, distributed visors and canteens among the hundreds of participants to be used on these regularly organized healthy routes.
Oswaldo Betancort emphasized the relevance of these activities to improve the well-being of the elderly. “The objective of the Cabildo's Government group is to promote an active and healthy lifestyle for our elders. With this type of initiative, we are not only talking about physical exercise, but also about leisure, culture, heritage and hiking, so I encourage them to continue participating massively as they are doing”, he highlighted.
For her part, Nori Machín, who recalled that this Tuesday, October 1, is International Day of Older Persons, an anniversary for which they are preparing novelties, has underlined the great reception of this new walk that “has allowed us to share a moment of enjoyment and this action is a way of thanking the group of elders for their life trajectory”, she points out.
Machín also thanked the collaboration of the seven municipalities, especially the councilorships for the Elderly, which join each installment of this initiative.
Some of the participants in this edition highlighted that "these walks are being a good experience since they are allowing them to stay active, enjoy the natural environment and meet friends".
The next Ponte en Marcha walk will take place in the municipality of Teguise.
