The Northern Mortgage Affected Association (Ahinor Lanzarote) has created on the island the Information Office for Vulnerable People in housing matters. This has been with the collaboration of the Housing and Social Welfare councils of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
In Lanzarote there are “more than 250 mortgage proceedings that could lead to the loss of housing”, according to Ahinor.
In August of this year, the heads of the Housing and Social Welfare councils of the Cabildo, Rosa Callero and Isabel Martín, respectively, held a meeting with Ahinor with the aim of “establishing lines of cooperation between both entities”, as well as providing answers “to the right to housing that assists citizens”. To this end, the Island Corporation nominated “a subsidy of 100,000 euros in favor of this organization in order to facilitate its work on the island”.
The Councilor for Housing and Finance of the Island Council, Rosa Callero, has pledged to work “to ensure that as many people as possible can be attended and can receive advice on their mortgage loan”. According to the councilor, the aim is none other than to try to eradicate, as far as possible, “violations of the right to housing, as well as to keep citizens informed in relation to procedures that can be long and complex”.
For her part, the head of Social Welfare, Isabel Martín Tenorio, stressed the importance of “cooperative work” between both parties, to “address this economic and social crisis, and prevent families who joined the mortgage moratorium during the pandemic from losing their homes”.
The physical headquarters of the Office will be in Arrecife, although its staff will travel to any municipality on the island to assist those who need its services. Anyone who wishes can obtain advice by calling 628257235 or contacting the email: [email protected].
