The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Planning and Project Coordination area led by vice-president María Jesús Tovar, has put out to tender the works intended to provide an efficient public lighting system for the residential areas of Montaña Blanca, Güime, and El Islote.
“We continue to bet on investment, transformation, and the search for a more friendly island, respectful of the Environment and eliminating fossil fuels. Now, with this lighting, we will achieve that these three population centers substantially improve their quality of life,” stated the vice-president.
This ambitious lighting and endowment infrastructure renovation project has a base tender budget that amounts to exactly 423,646.85 euros, including taxes and fees. The financing of the works is fully guaranteed through the European Next Generation EU funds, as this action is completely integrated into the 2023 Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination, framed within the European Union's Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan.
The technical intervention has as its main objective the exclusive replacement of the current obsolete luminaires with a total of 555 new simple light points equipped with high energy efficiency LED technology. With this deployment, the island corporation plans to drastically reduce conventional electricity consumption in the area, which will consequently lead to less use of fossil fuels and a direct decrease in carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere.
Likewise, the project will eradicate the significant problem of light pollution that these three towns suffer due to the continuous use of old high-pressure sodium vapor equipment, substantially favoring visibility at night, road and urban safety, and the general quality of life for all residents.
Companies interested in this project have until June 23 at 09:00 hours to submit their offers through the State Contracting Platform.
