The Culture area of Teguise has recovered this Monday, May 3, Day of the Cross, its tradition of adorning the 15 crosses located in the main streets of the Historic Site of the Villa, which have been a reference for the festive and religious events of the town, as well as points of union in the daily life of the old capital of the island.

The tradition of the Via Crucis has been celebrated for many years by the schoolchildren of the Villa and cultural groups of Teguise by decorating all the crosses with flowers, except for last year when, as a result of the pandemic, only one cross could be decorated symbolically and in honor of the victims of Covid-19.

“We are making a huge effort despite the circumstances to restore social, cultural and economic life to Teguise, and especially to a Historic Site considered one of the most beautiful towns in Spain,” said the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort. “We invite all the residents of Lanzarote to visit and consume the commerce, the restoration and the patrimonial charm of the streets of the Villa, and we thank the desire and dedication of our boys and girls, and also of all the cultural associations for always striving to keep alive the traditions that define us and give us a unique identity,” he added.
