"The manipulation of this centenary by Coalición Canaria will be a disgrace to the history of the Cabildo and the Government of the Canary Islands." This is how the coordinator of NC and candidate for Mayor of Arrecife for Somos Lanzarote - Nueva Canarias, Armando Santana, has spoken, after learning of the decision of the Electoral Board to open a disciplinary file against Pedro San Ginés, Fernando Clavijo, CC and the Cabildo of Lanzarote for the event held at Jameos del Agua on the occasion of the anniversary of the birth of César Manrique.

In a statement, Nueva Canarias describes the attitude of San Ginés and Clavijo as "miserable" and recalls that more than a month ago it already denounced to the Electoral Board "the more than evident intention of Coalición Canaria to manipulate the centenary of the birth of César Manrique." At that time, the government group of the Cabildo stated in a press release that the complaint had been dismissed, but as La Voz published at the time, the truth is that the Board's agreement was to "partially uphold it".

Thus, although it did not order the suspension of the events, the Electoral Board did warn that candidates running in the next elections could not participate in them, because to do so would violate the Electoral Law, as it is an act paid for with public funds that cannot be used for electoral campaigning. "Despite the manipulation of some, the Electoral Board itself partially upheld the appeal, prohibiting members of the government from starring in the events and giving speeches," NC also recalls.

"But Coalición Canaria has neither limits nor scruples and, neither short nor lazy, both Pedro San Ginés and Fernando Clavijo gave two regrettable and interminable speeches at the Manrique event paid for by all citizens," criticizes the party, which emphasizes that this is what has now led the Electoral Board to open a disciplinary file against them, precisely for having failed to comply with the order it gave when resolving the NC complaint.

"They will probably have to pay a fine, but what we will not be able to measure is the final cost of this centenary for the image of César Manrique and the institutions of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands," denounces Santana, who warns that "our most universal artist, César Manrique, does not deserve such irresponsible and unscrupulous leaders as Clavijo and San Ginés have proven to be.
