The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared a pre-alert situation for wind starting at 6:00 p.m. this Sunday, June 29, due to the forecast of very strong gusts that could reach or exceed 60 to 75 kilometers per hour.

In the case of Lanzarote, the wind is expected to especially affect the eastern half of the island, so the authorities urge the population to follow the self-protection recommendations to avoid accidents and risky situations. The measure also affects other areas of the Canary Islands such as Fuerteventura, San Sebastián de La Gomera, part of Tenerife and several municipalities of Gran Canaria.

In addition to this pre-alert for wind, alerts for high temperatures and risk of forest fires remain active in the archipelago, which reinforces the Government's call to exercise extreme caution.

Recommendations include removing objects from terraces and roofs that may fall onto public roads, avoiding wooded areas or unstable buildings and taking precautions when traveling. The importance of hydrating, avoiding sun exposure during peak heat hours and not carrying out activities that could trigger fires is also remembered.

The pre-alert has been decreed based on data from the State Meteorological Agency and in application of the Specific Emergency Plan for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).

The Government of the Canary Islands insists that in the event of any emergency, citizens should call 112.
