Agents of the Seprona will investigate if the 80-kilo chimpanzee that escaped from a farm in Mácher had all the necessary permits, after its owners did not provide any documentation to the Local Police of Tías, who requested it after recovering the animal. The chimpanzee has been owned by a family for "about 25 years" and, according to the report that the Local Police has sent to Seprona, the animal "does not carry any type of documentation."

From the Civil Guard they have confirmed to La Voz that from this Monday the Seprona will take charge of this matter and will investigate if the animal has all the necessary papers. In addition, they will have to find out if it is included in the CITES catalog on endangered species and, depending on what papers its owners have, it "should act in one way or another", according to these same sources.

In addition, a specialized veterinarian will analyze the health status of the animal to determine if it was physically well and was properly cared for, in case any other type of responsibility could be derived from these facts. Likewise, the Seprona agents will find out how and when this animal arrived on the island and with what permits it had to enter Lanzarote.

The animal escaped on Saturday and was located this Sunday late in the afternoon by the Local Police, who found it on a construction site in the Mácher area. The agents gave notice to the specialized personnel of Rancho Texas, who collaborated to administer a dose of tranquilizers. The chimpanzee was transferred to the farm from which it escaped, where it remains in the care of its owners.

According to sources from the Local Police, the animal is in good health and did not cause any type of "violent act" during the time it was lost, "neither against people, private farms or animals." "There have been no damages, or attacks," they insisted from the Municipal Police.
