The San Bartolomé City Council has a very positive assessment of the actions developed in employment matters throughout 2025, a year marked by the promotion of hiring plans, training, and the improvement of employability for the residents of the municipality, with special attention to groups facing greater difficulties in labor insertion.
The mayor, Isidro Pérez, emphasizes that "employment has been and continues to be an absolute priority for this governing group, not only as a tool to reduce unemployment figures, but also as a means to improve people's quality of life and strengthen municipal public services." In this regard, he highlighted the economic effort made by the City Council to supplement the subsidies received from other administrations and guarantee the execution of ambitious and effective programs.
During 2025, various employment plans have been implemented, allowing the hiring of dozens of unemployed individuals from the municipality. Among them, the San Bartolomé Social Employment Plan 2024-2025 has facilitated the employment of 54 people for 12 months, with an investment that has received funding from the Canary Islands Employment Service and SEPE, in addition to a significant municipal contribution. Added to this is the Lanzarote Island Council–San Bartolomé City Council Municipal Employment Plan, which has allowed the hiring of 15 people for six months in different professional categories, prioritizing those over 45 years old and combining employment with complementary training
The Councilor for Employment, Alma María González, highlights that "it is not just about offering a temporary job, but about supporting the participating individuals with training in digital skills, equality, employability, or first aid, so that they are better prepared for the labor market." González also emphasized the results of the Training in Alternance with Employment Programs (PFAE), five of which concluded in March with a total of 100 people hired and a good employment rate after their completion.
In April 2025, the PFAE-Youth Guarantee ‘San Bartolomé Dinamiza 4’ began, aimed at individuals under 30 years of age. It combines training and real work for 11 months in the field of child and youth engagement, and will continue until March 2026. Likewise, in December, a new edition of the First Experience in Public Administrations program was launched, hiring three recent graduates to facilitate their first work opportunity in the public sector.
Looking to the immediate future, the City Council already has new projects underway and planned for 2026, such as the San Bartolomé Social Employment Plan 2025-2026, a new employment plan with the Cabildo of Lanzarote, and three new PFAE (Training and Employment Workshops) in the socio-health, renewable energy, and cleaning sectors, which will allow for continued expansion of employment opportunities in the municipality.
Furthermore, the free online training platform Tiosko Emplea has surpassed 400 enrollments, consolidating itself as a key tool for improving the professional qualifications of the population, especially in areas such as technology, administration, and equality.
"The 2025 balance sheet shows that when administrations work in a coordinated manner and with social sensitivity, results arrive," concluded Mayor Isidro Pérez, who reaffirmed the commitment of the San Bartolomé City Council to continue promoting active employment policies "centered on people and the sustainable development of the municipality."
