The San Bartolomé City Council has approved the municipality's adhesion to the Local Energy Community (CEL) Toda Lanzarote. A non-profit association that will allow a "greater use of renewable energies in San Bartolomé and facilitate its access to citizens".
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, has pointed out that "the municipality maintains a firm commitment to decarbonization, so the adhesion to this energy community, born from institutional cooperation that will directly affect citizens in accessing renewable energies, is part of the policies that the City Council has been working on in recent years with the aim of minimizing the impact of the carbon footprint."
For his part, the Councilor for Renewable Energies, Fernando Vadillo, has stated that "promoting renewable energies in San Bartolomé and Lanzarote is essential and, with this new energy community, there will be a change in the island's model, allowing citizens to join a self-consumption installation when they cannot or do not want to have their own installation."
The Local Energy Community Toda Lanzarote has among its objectives "to promote the education and awareness of citizens in general with renewable energies", as well as to stimulate the "participation of the population in the electricity system and the promotion of new technologies".
The project, which is in the "initial phase of its structuring", plans to "start the first works of photovoltaic installations in the municipality at the end of 2024", as well as the "application and registration campaign for citizens".
