The managing director of Marina Rubicón, Rafael Lasso Lorenzo, had to explain last Friday before the judge of the Court of Instruction Number 2 of Arrecife and before the prosecutor why this Marina has never charged for the mooring of José Francisco Reyes' family yacht in this facility.
Lasso Lorenzo, son of the well-known businessman Rafael Lasso, had been summoned as a witness by the judge, within the framework of the latest police operation regarding the case for the alleged plot for the granting of illegal licenses in Playa Blanca.
In that last operation, which ended with the arrest of Reyes, his wife and three of his children, several searches were carried out on family properties, including the yacht that has been moored in Marina Rubicón for years.
Five years ago
The boat was acquired at the end of 2004 by the company called "Sea Sun Lanzarote S.L.", whose registered office is at Avenida Rubicón nº5 in Femés, that is, in the house where José Francisco Reyes resides.
Since then, five years ago, the yacht has been moored in the Marina Rubicón, but neither the former mayor nor his family have ever paid for it, according to the investigation.
During his statement, Rafael Lasso Lorenzo would have justified this by alleging that it would respond to business decisions, aimed at boosting the port. For a few days, the yacht, which was searched by police officers, has been sealed off.
