The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, decided to cross Arenas Blancas Avenue in Costa Teguise, known as Paseo de Las Cucharas, this Friday morning, accompanied by agents of the Local Police and municipal workers, who proceeded to remove urban furniture "that illegally occupied the public road."

"First of all, I apologize to the users of this tourist promenade, because we have burst into the avenue with security personnel and operators who are intervening to recover the image that the main tourist avenue of Costa Teguise deserves and that César Manrique designed in his day for the enjoyment of tourists, but also of the residents of the island of Lanzarote," the mayor declared at the foot of the work.

"We are proceeding to remove all the elements that disfigure and obstruct this promenade, which after all, is pedestrian, and therefore, for the exclusive use of pedestrians; and just as action was taken a few days ago in the seizure of electric scooters that operated in unauthorized areas, today we have intensified the police presence and removed the furniture that occupied the avenue without any authorization," Betancort explained.

After his tour of the Paseo de Las Cucharas, the mayor of Teguise announced a Marketing Plan, "in which the City Council commits to work hand in hand with merchants, to develop joint actions and provide the necessary tools with the common goal of promoting commercial activity, respecting the environment and public spaces for coexistence to be an even more competitive destination."
