Pedro Calero has been re-elected as the candidate of the Canarian Coalition for the Mayoralty of Tías. The Local Committee unanimously supported Calero, who did not receive any votes against, although it did register two abstentions. "I am very happy, very grateful to the Local Committee, the Assembly, the members and CC in Tías for the trust they have shown me," he said this Wednesday on Radio Lanzarote.
Pedro Calero has expressed his satisfaction that, finally, CC has reached an agreement in this municipality. "The process has not been entirely peaceful, but it is true that these conflicts and disagreements have led us to be much stronger," said Calero, who assured that "by making an effort together, problems will be solved more easily."
In this sense, he assured that despite the discrepancies that have arisen within his party, for example in Tías they have managed to double the number of members. "We have worked with new people who want to participate and who want to do things for this municipality. Without a doubt, the road has been tortuous, because there have been problems, but that is what politics is for, to resolve conflicts," defended the CC candidate for Mayor of Tías.
Thus, it seems that with the election of Pedro Calero peace comes to the heart of CC in this municipality, where the internal discrepancies of the party became evident after the breaking of the PIL-PSOE pact as a result of Operation "Unión".
At that time, the Local Committee of CC defended a pact with the Socialist Party, while the island leadership defended an alliance with the PIL and the PP. In the midst of the struggle, Calero ended up resigning as councilor and his replacement in the position, Jéssica Suárez, ended up joining the government group of the socialist José Juan Cruz.
The possibilities of Jéssica Suárez
Now, the question is whether Jéssica Suárez will return to the CC list in Tías. "I would like her to accompany me on the list, but it is not my decision, it will depend on the Local Committee and herself," insisted Calero, who highlighted the "management and trajectory" of Suárez at the head of the Department of Social Services. "The immense value of Jéssica is undeniable and, if she wants, her value should be taken advantage of," he stressed.
Finally, Pedro Calero indicated that "now is the time to work and join efforts to take CC as high as possible in this municipality."
