Patxi López called to "fill the ballot boxes with fists and roses on May 28" at the PSOE rally held at the Hotel Beatriz in Costa Teguise, this Thursday, May 18. López closed the electoral event in which Loli Corujo and Marcos Bergaz also spoke.
The spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Congress of Deputies said that Lanzarote "is an example of sustainability policies" and supported "the measures announced by Loli Corujo to establish an eco-tax or regulate vacation homes."
"These measures demonstrate love for Lanzarote and passion for an island that is an authentic heritage of humanity," the spokesperson assured.
"Social policies are a hallmark of the PSOE that begin with the City Councils, the institutions closest to the citizens," said Patxi López, who confessed that, in this electoral event, he detects in every corner of the country that the militancy is "mentally prepared, motivated, and proud."
His last words were: "We need mayors who manage well, but also who are builders of coexistence and harmony, who raise a wall against hate speech and who defend equality, freedom, and social justice," and he cited Loli Corujo and Marcos Bergaz as "good examples of this."
Previously, Loli Corujo took the floor, who argued that Costa Teguise, "which we affectionately call Kostategui precisely because of the abundance of countrymen of Patxi, is a faithful reflection of the poor government of the Canarian Coalition in the municipality" and stressed: "They have mistreated Costa Teguise so much that we almost don't even remember that it was the highest quality tourist center in all of the Canary Islands, rivaling any other destination."
"That common heritage that is Costa Teguise has been destroyed in just ten years by Oswaldo Betancort and the Canarian Coalition; while Tías with Pepe Juan Cruz is already on its third Modernization Plan, Oswaldo Betancort has not done any," the candidate stated.
"We hear Oswaldo Betancort boasting about his commitment to tourism when he still keeps standing those skeletons that are nothing more than the permanent reminder of the urban corruption of the Canarian Coalition," she firmly stated.
"The problem of Teguise is that its mayor has been a "real bluff" due to his lack of management capacity."
"The problem of Teguise is that its mayor has been a "real bluff" due to his lack of management capacity. "The Cabildo has not been able to invest more in Teguise in this term because Oswaldo Betancort has proven to be incapable of the most basic thing: making land available and authorizing the works through administrative cooperation," Corujo stressed.
"Almost 8,000 homes that should have been sold or rented to our people have ended up in the vacation market." When I say that, when the PSOE says that, Oswaldo Betancort "falsely accuses me of demonizing vacation homes." But what I say is that "we are doing something wrong when the homes that should be welcoming young people who want to become independent end up being used to house tourists," she pointed out.
In addition, she clarified: "We have far exceeded our load capacity and the time has come to stop growth and bet on development, because they are two very different things." "So we defend our main economic activity tooth and nail and, precisely for that reason, we want it to be sustainable over time," she says.
Regarding the eco-tax, she argued: "It is not true that it endangers tourism, because hoteliers have doubled the price of the bed in recent years and more and more tourists are coming." Therefore, "if the bed can be raised by fifty euros, which goes directly into the hotelier's pocket, two or three euros can be raised to guarantee the conservation of our landscape," argued Loli Corujo.
Marcos Bergaz opened the event and referred to Patxi López as the Lehendakari "who restored peace and coexistence in Euskadi and in Spain together with Zapatero and Rubalcaba." The socialist candidate for mayor of Teguise pointed out that "his best endorsement and that of his team is the firm and constructive opposition that we have carried out throughout the term."
Bergaz presented his projects for Teguise and, among the investments, he stressed "the improvement of the promenade, a fairground, and quality services." In terms of planning, he cited "a Modernization Plan for Costa and to get rid of the skeletons" and pledged to improve the Technical Office "so that residents do not have to wait a year for a license to build their houses."
In his opinion, "the big problem of Teguise is the Canarian Coalition, which has been more focused on the mayor's personal political career than on managing, more on elbowing his way to succeed the mayor than on the problems of the citizens, more on ambitions than on the future of Teguise," he acknowledges.
"The municipal government of the Canarian Coalition is falling apart, so I want to be mayor because a better Teguise is possible."
"I need, we need, you to go to the polls to regain leadership, to govern well, to overcome the victim mentality of the Canarian Coalition with the rest of the administrations," Marcos Bergaz declared to the audience, and concluded by saying: "The municipal government of the Canarian Coalition is falling apart, so I want to be mayor because a better Teguise is possible."
