CC deputy Oswaldo Betancort has conveyed to the Minister of Public Works of the Canary Islands Government the "dissatisfaction" of the island of Lanzarote regarding roads. “And although the list is long, starting with the collapse in the accesses to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital and ending with the need to improve the entrances and exits of the Lanzarote capital and airport, I will focus on a highly demanded work such as the burying of the LZ-2 road at the height of the town of Playa Honda”, Oswaldo Betancort stated this Tuesday in Parliament.
“Playa Honda is the fourth largest population center in Lanzarote and the gateway for tourists to our island, and a nucleus that finds that the highway that crosses it constitutes a physical border, where pedestrians and cyclists have a very difficult time moving from one side to another in safe conditions. However, the options proposed by the Ministry you lead were first to build a new highway from Argana (Arrecife) to Playa Honda. And regarding this, allow me to reproduce the phrase used by the fellow mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, although today he is unfortunately not among us, but his legacy continues, who said that that would be opening another wound in the territory and more land consumption”, he continued.
“I would like you to listen to what the residents, the business fabric that operates in the industrial and commercial area, one of the most relevant on our island, and what mobility experts say, so that they do not continue putting pitch patches in Lanzarote or presenting projects for the area that are an absolute absurdity with the sole purpose of doing nothing, arguing that in Lanzarote people do not decide because, simply, that is not true”, Betancort assured.
“It is unacceptable that, while in Lanzarote it cannot be buried, in Tenerife it can be buried without any impediments and with a budget of 118 million euros, and that there are no problems in El Hierro either. Our conclusion is that this Government does not take Lanzarote into account, also with the approval of the Cabildo, and I fear that the only pitch we will see will be the one spilled on our things thanks to Mr. Sánchez's unilateral foreign policy”, he concluded.
