The mayor of Yaiza,Óscar Noda has addressed the controversy over the garbage accumulated in Playa Blanca after the celebration of the Carmen festivities. The PP, PSOE and CC have harshly criticized the Government group due to the conditions of "seriousness" and the "terrible" domestic garbage collection service in the municipality,
The mayor of Yaiza explained, in an interview granted to Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero this Wednesday morning, the reasons why the situation has occurred: "There were three trucks, one broke down and the company is not finishing repairing it." The company is 'Urbaser', in which the workers, "do not have sufficient means to collect the accumulated garbage", adds Noda.
"We are looking for a quick solution in the short term and with new conditions for the workers", who currently have "some bad salary conditions", he emphasizes. Therefore, "we have even put municipal machinery to remove the garbage", comments the mayor. "During the week I have met with a union to see the reinforcements that we can implement", assures Noda.
"I am focused on the issue", recognizes Óscar Noda. "We have been having meetings for some time and trying to have a new labor agreement", he reveals, in addition "we tried to launch a new tender and it was challenged", he complains.
"It is true that there were two points that were the worst left, but we already apologized for it on social networks", Noda remarks. "It was on the weekend and everything accumulated", he apologizes.
He adds that they have been working on the garbage issue for months, "we will launch a new tender with a budget of 2.8 million euros per year". "We want to improve and put all possible benefits", therefore, "I am considering launching another emergency tender" in the meantime, he anticipates. "We have to see if it is convenient for us to do it", he informs.
He also makes it clear that "meetings will be held next week with companies and unions" to see "what solution is best for the residents". It should be noted that as a measure "workers are needed", since some "are on leave", concludes the mayor.
