Storm Claudia, with a significant impact, is approaching the Canary Islands and is expected to bring episodes of heavy storms and rain to the westernmost islands at the beginning of the week. The State Meteorological Agency warned on Monday morning that this storm will bring strong winds and intense, persistent rainfall to the archipelago.

Furthermore, it will also affect the western Iberian Peninsula with strong gusts of wind, persistent rainfall, and a maritime storm.

For the moment, the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has reported orange and yellow alerts for next Wednesday in all the western islands. The orange alert has been activated on the island of La Palma, where rainfall is expected to generate significant risk, with accumulated precipitation of 100 millimeters in twelve hours. Meanwhile, part of Tenerife and the islands of La Graciosa and El Hierro in their entirety will be on yellow alert for the same reason.

The arrival of this storm system in Lanzarote will occur starting Thursday, when overcast skies and heavy rains are expected. Moderate rains are expected on this day, which could be in the form of stormy showers and locally heavy and persistent in the southern and western slopes. Additionally, they will be less likely in the northeastern slopes of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura at the end of the day.

As for the wind, it will be strong from the southwest, shifting to west, with very strong gusts in the interior of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. By the end of the day, it will decrease to moderate
