The Assembly of Coalición Canaria in Teguise has designated Olivia Duque as the new local secretary during the event held on the night of Friday, August 27, at the Nazaret Sociocultural Center.

The event, as has been customary in the rest of the assemblies, was attended by the island secretary of the nationalist formation on the island, Migdalia Machín, who highlighted that “after the renewal of practically all of the local committees of Lanzarote, pending the Tías assembly that will materialize next Monday, I must say that we have once again demonstrated that we are an exemplary organization, and I feel that we have consolidated a project of guarantees to face the uncertain future that lies ahead and that we are prepared to offer the solutions that our citizens demand and that Lanzarote, undoubtedly, deserves”.

The assembly was also attended by the Secretary of Organization of Coalición Canaria in Lanzarote, Echedey Eugenio, the general secretary of the Jóvenes Nacionalistas de Lanzarote, Sara Bermúdez, as well as the local secretaries of Arrecife (Jacobo Lemes), Yaiza (Mateo Ramón), San Bartolomé (Eduardo Díaz), Haría (Víctor Robayna), Tinajo (Luis Miguel Pérez) and Tías (Sandra Rodríguez).

Among the public officials, the event was attended, as it could not be otherwise, by the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, the national Secretary of Organization of Coalición Canaria, David Toledo, the president of the Jóvenes Nacionalistas de Canarias, Jesús Machín, and the councilor of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, among others.

Before the vote was carried out, the outgoing local secretary, Toni Callero, opened the round of interventions, who made an assessment of the management carried out by his team during the last years and in which he highlighted “the work carried out by the committee, made up of numerous members who have worked hard and well in the electoral campaigns as demonstrated by the results obtained in which the key was not to reach an absolute majority but something more complicated such as maintaining it and we have achieved that”.

On the other hand, Callero promised to continue working for the future of Coalición Canaria given that “despite not continuing at the head of the local secretariat, I will continue working for this political organization from another front such as the island executive as deputy secretary of Organization”.

The outgoing local secretary concluded his speech summarizing the work carried out and a challenge for the new committee, “work, team, results and good management before the pandemic and, during it, obviously everything became complicated and some projects could not go ahead, but I am sure that the new team, now that circumstances may allow it, will take them up again and make them a reality”.

In the round of interventions, the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, also took the floor, who asked the new committee to “face the challenge with the same enthusiasm as the outgoing one, that they continue as until now defending the project and the team”.

Another of the interventions of the event was that of the National Secretary of Organization of Coalición Canaria, David Toledo, who congratulated the outgoing committee for the work carried out and to remember that “we are the only organization capable of providing a solution to the migration problem, respect for the Economic and Fiscal Regime, and we can only do it from each of the municipalities”.

After the vote of the assembly, the new local secretary of Teguise, Olivia Duque, took the floor, who began her speech thanking the outgoing local secretary “for the work carried out over the last few years” highlighting the demonstrated management capacity, despite the obstacles that have arisen as a result of the health crisis, and confirming the desire expressed previously by Toni Callero assuring that “the initiatives and ideas that the pandemic prevented from going ahead will be taken up again by the new team that I lead to make them effective”.

Olivia Duque also thanked the public officials of the party of whom she said “that they constitute the main engine of Coalición Canaria” for everything taught over the last 10 years “which has been decisive so that today I have the necessary experience and training to face this new project”.

The women of Coalición Canaria, likewise, have had space in the recognitions made by the new local secretary of which she highlighted that they are “fighting women, mothers, housewives, wives and great professionals who fight day by day to be in everything and more”.

In this section, finally, she had words of recognition for the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, to whom she expressed her “admiration because he has been a political reference and from whom I want to highlight his perseverance, work, intelligence and the fight for his municipality and its people from minute one; as well as his loyalty and protection of the colleagues he has had in his government group. Now, after almost four legislatures together, I look back and think that I have been privileged to have been part of his team”.

Subsequently and, after the presentation of the members of the new local committee, of which she highlighted that they represent “an example of teamwork and unity, a mixture of experience and young people that will allow to consolidate one of the projects with more muscle at the island level”; she advanced some of the programmatic lines of the new local committee, especially highlighting that of “giving voice to each of our affiliates, creating secretariats of towns where it will be debated with the sole purpose of making the needs and deficiencies” of municipal life reach the government group.

Finally, Olivia Duque ended her intervention promising “enthusiasm, perseverance, humility, closeness, work and transparency that is what we want to contribute and promote with this new local committee that begins its journey today”.
