The Director of Heritage of the Government of the Canary Islands and possible candidate for Mayor of Arrecife for Podemos, Nona Perera, has indicated that her main intention for the capital city council is "to put people at the center", contributing to "the neighborhoods entering it" to "recover the self-esteem of the city".
Perera explained in an interview on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that Arrecife has been the "ugly part" of Lanzarote for decades, and it is on this certainty that she wants to focus: "Our proposal is that this mentality of the citizens changes now and forever, because we are a city susceptible to improvement."
Likewise, she has detailed that the only way to achieve this advance is by "putting sanity", since not all neighborhoods have the same needs, so "it is necessary to attend to the particularities in all matters."
A transport network based on people
One of these particularities is transport, one of the main difficulties of the capital.
Regarding this, the candidate has indicated that "the mobility plan must be taken out of the drawer and put into operation", since today "there are people who take two hours to get from Arrecife to Puerto del Carmen, and that is terrible."
Faced with this, the violet formation proposes increasing the frequencies of buses so that they "do not stagnate", increasing services and giving rise to an individualized planning on how people move, to create a network "based on their needs and not on the interests of the company."
Heritage, an important point
Along with this, another of the issues that Perera has emphasized is heritage, because "within the recovery of self-esteem is also the consideration of cultural heritage."
The Podemos politician has detailed that, just as there should not be neighborhoods more "poor or deficient in services", there should also not be "with less heritage", so her objective is to give rise to "extended sequences in time to narrate our history both on land and at sea, and having the utmost respect for all of it."
Looking ahead to May, Podemos wants "guarantees"
Looking ahead to the elections in May, as other leaders of her party have already done, Perera has recognized that it will be almost impossible to reach an absolute majority: "It is the situation and we have to adapt, but we want to govern with the greatest amount of guarantees that we will be able to develop our work."
Regarding her figure, it remains to be determined whether she will run for the capital city council or the Parliament of the Canary Islands, since the tables are still negotiating.
"I will go where the party establishes, because I am at their disposal, but I would love to stay in Arrecife", the candidate concluded.
