A buggy company has been fined 1,000 euros after last January it was caught in flagrante delicto by agents of the Nature Protection Service (Seprona) circulating with six vehicles in caravan off authorized roads, paths, or tracks in the Barranco de Las Piletas, in Guatiza. This was confirmed to La Voz by the Cabildo of Lanzarote itself.
According to them, the fine was classified as minor, but the company only had to pay 600 euros after a 40% reduction by paying it within a set period.
The events occurred on January 14, when agents verified that an organized buggy excursion left the existing path to start circulating on an unpaved track and land within an area classified as Rustic Land for Landscape Protection. As reflected in the citation report, the clients had paid 180 euros per person to carry out the activity.
After becoming aware of this infraction, Seprona reported the facts and the Environment Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote initiated sanctioning proceedings.
The proceedings also included a technical report warning that the repetition of excursions of this type can cause disturbances to various protected species present in the affected area, including the Fuerteventura kestrel (Falco tinnunculus dacotiae), the Fuerteventura barn owl (Tyto alba gracilirostris), and the guirre (Neophron percnopterus majorensis), listed as endangered.
The Environment Area reminds that the circulation of caravans of more than three vehicles off the official network of routes in natural areas is prohibited by regional legislation.
