The Titerroy Neighborhood Association has stated that neither the Councilor for Cleaning of the Arrecife City Council, Carmelo Santana, nor any operator went to the house this Tuesday, whose roof collapsed in 2009 and killed a young man from the neighborhood, to inquire about the floods that the property could suffer after the rains of the last days. The president of the neighborhood group, Ismael Montero, has responded to the statement issued this Tuesday by the City Council in which he denied the information of the association and stated that there was no accumulated water in the house, that they had left a drain in the patio to channel it, and that no adjoining house suffered humidity.
According to Ismael Montero, after the City Council's statement was made public, he went to the houses where Carmelo Santana had supposedly been to worry about this situation in person. "We went on Tuesday the 15th at 6:00 p.m. to several houses, specifically to the one next to the affected one and the one behind it. We asked the owners if they had received a visit from City Council personnel in the morning and they told us no", Montero insists.
In this sense, the president of the neighborhood group does not explain why the Councilor for Cleaning assured that there was no humidity in the houses if it is not clear that he went to visit the neighbors. "It is not about whether the houses have humidity or not, but that we requested that solutions be sought to prevent them from being filled with humidity", defends Ismael Montero.
Likewise, he has also denied that the house affected by the collapse has a drain, as the Arrecife City Council said this Tuesday. "It does not have a drain to expel rainwater to the street, since it does not even have a roof", he points out.
Montero recalled that the neighborhood association only wanted to collaborate with the City Council "with the aim of trying to find a better quality of life for the residents of this neighborhood". "We have no reason to lie", said the president of the association, while accusing Councilor Carmelo Santana of "confusing public opinion with such a delicate issue". "Let no one play politics with something as delicate as the death of a neighbor", demanded the Titerroy Neighborhood Association.
