NC requests the installation of semi-automatic defibrillators throughout the municipality of Haría

"It is essential to turn Haría into a cardioprotected municipality where in each space of interest there is a defibrillator and a trained person who can save the life of anyone," they say from the party

The Local Committee of Nueva Canarias in Haría demands that the municipal government group acquire different semi-automatic defibrillators (AEDs) in order to locate them throughout the municipality to respond to any type of emergency.

"When a person suffers ventricular fibrillation, their heart is in cardiorespiratory arrest, and it is essential to have a semi-automatic defibrillator (AED) quickly to proceed with resuscitation," explain the Canarian nationalists.

"If cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers are initiated, and we also have a defibrillator nearby where a shock can be delivered in the first 4-8 minutes, the victim has a high chance of survival," says Yamirka González, family doctor at the Haría Health Center and member of the Local Committee of NC.

"More and more localities around the world are installing this type of device in sports buildings, town halls, ports and municipal cars, as they are usually the first to arrive at an emergency call and can act in the first minutes," the party emphasizes.

For the Local Committee of NC, it is "important to build heart-safe spaces." Therefore, they request the northern Council to install defibrillators "in visible and accessible places, train municipal personnel and carry out a communication and awareness campaign for the residents of the availability and location of these instruments."

“In the north we have the disadvantage that we do not have a sanitized or medicalized ambulance, in addition to not having any nearby 24-hour health center, so, in the event of a cardiorespiratory emergency, the residents of Haría are on their own,” says Marcos Lemes, candidate for Mayor of Haría for NC, who believes that "it is essential to turn Haría into a cardioprotected municipality where in each space of interest there is a defibrillator and a trained person who can save the life of anyone.”

“Having external defibrillators in cardioprotected spaces in plain sight of everyone is a powerful tool to raise awareness among citizens, educating them about the disadvantages of not taking care of our cardiac health,” says doctor Yamirka González.

"An Island That Takes Care of You"

On the other hand, the party recalls that the initiative “An Island That Takes Care of You” promoted by the Insular Secretary of NC Lanzarote, and led by nurse Yoné Caraballo, continues to tour the urban centers of the island promoting talks and meetings around well-being and healthy habits.

Last Thursday, November 3, a meeting took place at the Sociedad El Porvenir de San Bartolomé, where a hundred people gathered to talk about public health and healthy habits to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

Subsequently, last Saturday, November 12, the meeting was replicated at the Sociedad Caletón Blanco de Órzola, where in addition to Yoné Caraballo, there were interventions by the family doctor from Haría, Yamirka González; the Technicians in Auxiliary Nursing Care, Encarna Barrios and Tere Cabrera; the social worker and National Secretary of Health and Social Services of NC, Daisy Villalba; and the candidate for Mayor of Haría, Marcos Lemes.

They all exposed "the socio-health reality that the north of Lanzarote suffers," say the Canarian nationalists, emphasizing the "importance of opening the 24-hour Continuous Care Point of Mala," which was approved in the Parliament of the Canary Islands on July 27.
