Nueva Canarias has denounced this Monday the investments in bus stops in Puerto del Carmen, which seem "excessive" to them. At the end of June, the Cabildo of Lanzarote awarded the works for the execution of four bus stop shelters in Puerto del Carmen to the company Construcciones Ajei S.L. for 36,607 euros (plus Igic). The formation states that they learned of the award "through the media" and ask to know "what model of bus stop will be installed" and "why are they so expensive".
These bus stops are included within the investments that the Island Corporation executes within the Tourism Infrastructure Plan of the Government of the Canary Islands. They will be the first four that the institution executes in this municipality and will specifically affect the Floresta-Hotel Jameos, Costamar, Hotel San Antonio and Barcarola stops. For NC, although it defends the "renovation and installation of new bus stops where there are none", "this investment of the Island Council of Lanzarote is a real waste, since it represents a total cost of 36,607 euros plus Igic for a total of 4 bus stops in Puerto del Carmen (9,151.75 euros plus Igic each)".
"Mame Fernández already denounced in February 2012 the renovation of the bus stops on the Island with the allusion to a unique image, specifically in the municipality of Tías the impressive waste that each of them cost, between 20 and 25 thousand euros, was denounced", they recall. "Now, we want to believe that it is another model and for the interior of Puerto del Carmen, but this same type of investment is reported again and not others, investments with a cost that remains high for the type of work involved and, above all, taking into account that in the municipality and on the island there are more urgent problems and needs to solve", they emphasize.
Thus, Nueva Canarias asks to know "what type or model of bus stop will be installed" and "why are they so expensive". "It is not understood why an inventory is not made before and it is really determined if it is necessary to renovate or install new ones", they point out. For the formation, "perhaps what it is really about is one more attempt by the Cabildo for the residents of the municipality of Tías to believe that the First Institution of the island invests in the municipality". "It may also be just to justify that the local government "gets along well" with the island government. Let everyone draw their own conclusions", they conclude.
