"Given the extraordinary rise of 6.7% in the CPI recorded in December of this year, the highest in 30 years", Más Canarias urges all administrations "to agree on measures that avoid an unacceptable loss of purchasing power". The formation expresses its concern about the thousands of clauses that include rent increases linked to prices, in many cases, automatically.

The party argues that the median rent in Spain "is 726 euros per month, so if the 6.7% increase were applied, it would mean an extra expense of 550 euros per year!. “Housing is a basic necessity and, with the difficult situation that so many people are going through, we must ensure that no one suffers from having a roof over their head” says the president of the formation, Javier Navarro.

Más Canarias wants to leave behind the system of rent updates linked to the CPI and move to another in which it depends exclusively on the evolution of wages. In this regard, Navarro points out that “the only way to guarantee that purchasing power is not lost is by observing the money that really reaches citizens' pockets, not what the price of electricity goes up”.

The formation has set the maximum increase for 2022 at 1.5%, according to preliminary wage agreement data. To ensure that this measure reaches those who need it most, the party proposes "setting such a limit on private rentals that do not exceed 1200 euros per month, as well as rentals that have been signed by SMEs or self-employed people".

“In this formation we believe in social justice and that involves an administration that is capable of responding in time to emergencies like this”- says Navarro- “we are in time to stop an imminent increase in poverty” he concludes.
