The current general secretary of the PSOE in Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo Berriel, will repeat in the position for four more years, as hers has been the only pre-candidacy presented for the X Island Congress.

This has been confirmed by the Secretary of Organization of the PSOE in Lanzarote, José Juan Cruz, who has indicated that the presentation period ended this Wednesday, February 2.

Cruz explained that the Island Congress will be held on February 19 and 20, still pending the health situation to be able to do it in person or electronically. However, the mayor of Tías has also announced that a “security plan” will be drawn up to carry out the Congress, and that they will even consider “installing tents” to be able to host the celebration.

In this event, the socialists will have to debate the party's framework paper, which consists of “62 pages and 338 articles”. “Now it is up to the local assemblies that, before February 10, have to present the list of delegates who are going to the Congress”, Cruz detailed, who added that around “122 delegates” will attend.

In addition, local assemblies must present the appropriate amendments to submit them to debate in the plenary session. “From there will come the definitive proposal that will mark the political lines of the PSOE in Lanzarote”, he points out.

José Juan Cruz also pointed out that the party has coordinated so that the Island Congresses do not coincide, since the general secretary “wants to be present in all of them”. In this way, the Lanzarote Congress will be the first, and the rest of the Canary Islands Committees will be held consecutively, in a process that will culminate before April 30.
