Marci Acuña resigns as councilor of the Canarian Coalition in the Haría City Council

Marci Acuña has presented this Tuesday his resignation as CC councilor in Haría. "The reason, although not original or rather a cliché, focuses on strictly personal and political responsibility issues," the nationalist said in a letter addressed to the people of Haría.

"At this moment, a series of personal conditions exist in my life that require me to spend more time on them, especially in relation to my family," explains Acuña in his writing, where he points out that he also understands that politics "is a temporary issue and above all of participation."

After thanking the work, collaboration and trust of citizens, groups, City Council workers and CC colleagues, Marci Acuña has recalled his "adventure" as mayor of Haría from 2015 to 2019, when he had José Pérez Dorta, from Alternativa Democrática, as a government partner, whom he also thanks "for making the work easy" during those four years of mandate, highlighting that they represented "the investment commitment, executed, awarded or in the process of being awarded" in the municipality of a "not insignificant" amount of 15.3 million euros.

Likewise, he recalls that he began the current mandate as mayor although "in a situation of instability and with the long shadow of uncertainty and lack of political majority, with which to face the needs of the City Council." For this reason, he points out that "in an exercise of responsibility and putting the municipality and the people first", the nationalists closed an agreement with the PSOE, by which he resigned from the Mayor's Office in favor of Alfredo Villalba.

"We face this agreement with the loyalty to fulfill it, as we have always done, and with the firm conviction that it is the best way to manage and solve the problems of Haría. For all this, I wholeheartedly wish the greatest amount of success to this new Corporation that has resources and with a path already advanced to continue with the sustainable construction of a rural municipality, but with quality services and equal rights to other island territories," he says.

A "reflection" on new leaderships

Finally, Mari Acuña points out that he "personally" assumes "responsibility for the results obtained by CC in Haría in the last general elections", where the nationalists remained as the second force both in Congress and in the Senate behind the PSOE. "Very complicated elections, but where the message from our voters, I believe, deserves a reflection and decision-making on the new leaderships that should occupy a preferential place," he says.

Likewise, the nationalist apologizes for the mistakes made", assuring that they have been "without intention of harming anyone." "I like politics, as a tool to improve and contribute to the society where I live and therefore, I will always be willing to help in whatever my personal circumstances allow me," he concludes.

CC affirms that it will continue "collaborating and participating" in the party

The island secretary of CC in Lanzarote, Migdalia MAchín, has conveyed in her name and in that of the entire party her gratitude "for all the work done" by Acuña in "a long political career that has led him to be a councilor in the Cabildo of Lanzarote, deputy in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, candidate for the Senate and mayor of the City Council of Haría."  In addition, despite his resignation as councilor, CC affirms that Marci Acuña "will continue collaborating and participating in the organic part" of the party.

Likewise, CC points out that Alejandro Hernández Perdomo will take office in the coming days as the new councilor in the City Council replacing Acuña.

Full letter from Marci Acuña

"Dear people of Haría:

These letters that I write to you are intended to share my decision to resign from my position as councilor in the City Council of Haría. I want to thank you for the trust you have shown in these years, especially in those where I had the immense honor of serving as mayor in our beloved municipality. I also want to thank the collaboration and help of the Associations, Sports Clubs and Media to make the daily work easier.

The reason, although not original or rather a cliché, focuses on strictly personal and political responsibility issues.

I will explain these reasons to you, not without first thanking each and every one of the neighbors who gave me so much affection and support, even in the most difficult moments. Likewise, I will never forget the welcome that the municipal workers gave me, making it very easy for me to carry out my duties at the head of the Consistory and with the support and guarantee of commitment.

On the other hand, I thank the Corporation colleagues for the respect shown towards me during the years in which I have been in public work, which began in the 2003/2007 term as councilor and where I began my learning in these tasks. However, I would especially like to thank the help and loyal collaboration of the colleagues who embarked with me in 2015 and who joined the government group (Víctor, Soraya, Auxi, Ivens and Armando) as members of Coalición Canaria and also Elisabeth and Alejando who joined from the mixed group in the final stretch of the mandate. In turn, I extend this gratitude to the Local Committee of Coalición Canaria in Haría for their support and affection shown in these years.

And the story was like this. There, in the month of June 2015, a group of friends began the adventure of managing public services in this north of the island. With great enthusiasm, we created a government group, united by the vision of responsibility and general interest as axes of a return of closeness, dialogue, participation in the government group. In this sense, I thank Alternativa Democrática and especially José Pérez Dorta for making the work and collaboration easy in the four years of our mandate, because it was from both
formations, with the sole objective of carrying out projects and well-being for the residents of Haría.

The 2015/2019 mandate has meant the commitment of investment, executed, awarded or in the process of being awarded, in our municipal area of the amount, not insignificant, of 15,391,798.30 ? distributed by each of the administrations as follows:

? Haría City Council 1,464,298.3?
? Cabildo de Lanzarote 7,691,500 ?
? Government of the Canary Islands 6,236,000 ?

This 2019/2023 mandate started with my presidency at the head of the Corporation, but in a situation of instability and with the long shadow of the
uncertainty and lack of political majority with which to face the needs in the City Council. For this reason, in an exercise of responsibility and putting the municipality and the people first, we closed a mandate agreement with the PSOE, which we hope and trust in the people who have joined to bring this project to fruition.

We face this agreement with the loyalty to fulfill it, as we have always done, and with the firm conviction that it is the best way to manage and solve the problems of Haría. For all this, I wholeheartedly wish the greatest amount of success to this new Corporation that has resources and with a path already advanced to continue with the sustainable construction of a rural municipality, but with quality services and equal rights to other island territories.

At this moment, a series of personal conditions exist in my life that require me to spend more time on them, especially in relation to my family.

On the other hand, I understand politics as a temporary issue and above all of participation, which is why another colleague, from the Local Committee of Coalición Canaria in Haría, will take over and will have the opportunity to offer the best of himself for public management in the municipal area. As I mentioned before, my inability to be full-time will allow this colleague to develop his activity 100%.

Finally, I also want to state that I personally assume responsibility for the results obtained by Coalición Canaria in Haría in the last general elections. Very complicated elections, but where the message from our voters, I believe, deserves a reflection and decision-making on the new leaderships that should occupy a preferential place.

From the bottom of my heart I thank you all and apologize for the mistakes made, which have been the result of my person, but without intention of harming anyone. I like politics, as a tool to improve and contribute to the society where I live and therefore, I will always be willing to help in whatever my personal circumstances allow me. Thank you."
