"I didn't know about this, but I don't like the news at all." This is how the mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, expressed himself after learning from La Voz de Lanzarote that the Island Plan proposes transforming the Timanfaya road into a one-way road, from north to south. Machín has stated on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that he "categorically" opposes this proposal. "Let whoever has to be offended be offended," he said.
Machín believes that to avoid traffic jams, the best solution would be to create a parking lot in the area of the Los Dolores hermitage so that tourists can travel by bus to the Montañas del Fuego from there. "This has always been in the various agreements that have been made in the National Parks commissions, but they don't want to understand or see it," he said, while saying that he "will not budge" from this approach.
"I am quite clear about it. I will defend everything I have to defend for the interests of the residents. I am against this proposal," insisted Machín, who would be "a little more" convinced if the direction of the road was the opposite, that is, "from Yaiza to Tinajo." "It is not the same for tourism to pass through Tinajo and continue towards Yaiza as it is to come from Yaiza and continue towards Tinajo, where they will stay to see the landscape and boost the economy," the mayor defended.
Therefore, he does not understand this proposal from the drafting team of the Island Plan. "These very expert people don't think about the municipalities they have to think about. I don't see it, they would have to give me an explanation, because I don't agree. Since tourism sleeps down there, in the south, let them go up, towards Tinajo," he insisted.
The technicians of Tinajo will analyze this proposal of the Island Plan "in depth", according to the mayor. "I didn't like the news because I can be flexible, but not this," he said.
