Agents of the Tías Local Police force are giving information sessions this week at the Tías Secondary Education Institute (IES) to raise student awareness about the safe and responsible use of electric scooters or Personal Mobility Vehicles (PMVs).

Around 170 students from the 1st and 2nd years of Compulsory Secondary Education at IES Tías are receiving key information on road safety when using these vehicles. The aim is not only to educate on traffic regulations but also to foster respect on public roads.

Police officers provide basic information on traffic regulations, the obligation to wear a vest and helmet, the characteristics that electric scooters must have, and the correct way to ride on the road. They also show them a video of the municipality with practical cases where infractions are observed and answer students' questions.

In general, young people lack training in this regard, so it is important to provide them with preventive data, as they can be subject to sanctions. For example, riding without a helmet carries a fine of 200 euros, and there are other infractions that incur fines of up to 1,500 euros.

This is the second consecutive year these informational sessions are being held in the secondary schools of the municipality of Tías. In fact, after Carnival, the officers will offer these talks to the students of IES Puerto del Carmen.
