The municipal group of Lanzarote En Pie (LEP) in the Arrecife City Council wants to express its "absolute perplexity at the unilateral announcement of the mayor, Astrid Pérez, communicated in a press release stating that she has delegated the management of the rehabilitation of the houses in the neighborhood (Titerroy) to the councilor Leticia Padilla.” Likewise, LEP emphasizes that "said delegation occurs without the express consent of the affected councilor herself and without any type of dialogue or prior considerations having taken place."
Given this context, Leticia Padilla wants to highlight that "she received the communication through an audio message sent by the mayor herself, and without any prior telephone conversation or meeting having taken place; that at 10:47 a.m. this morning she sent a letter to the General Secretariat of the Arrecife City Council requesting the revocation of Decree 7466/2022 for lacking prior consent and the appropriate conditions for adopting a consensual decision, as La Voz reported."
However, Padilla explains, "a press release was issued from the Mayor's Office announcing the decision made." In this regard, Padilla has expressed her "incredulity at what she considers an ugly political ploy” by Astrid Pérez. “It has been a unilateral decision by the mayor without prior notice, without dialogue, and without informing me about the conditions of such delegation,” said the spokesperson for Lanzarote En Pie.
In this sense, the LEP councilor has said that “to reach an agreement, the consent of the parties is necessary, to sign a contract, the clauses must be known beforehand, and in this case, there have not even been minimal conditions for dialogue.”
Padilla recalled that “the commitment to the residents of Titerroy has been firm from the first minute of this mandate. Our work is there, and the residents themselves can confirm it. We are the most active and decisive group in the opposition.”
In addition, the municipal spokesperson has stated that “we have been working for three years to find a viable solution to the problems of the evicted families. The proposal that is currently on the table came from LEP: to ask the Government of the Canary Islands for an appraisal of the homes and a designated subsidy for their rehabilitation. Our commitment to this issue is undeniable, and we are not going to allow our work to be tarnished with electoral tricks. Astrid Pérez must assume her responsibility as mayor.”
Padilla has lamented that they are playing with the situation of the families of Titerroy. “Astrid Pérez has been making statements in the media all week saying that the powers belong to the Government of the Canary Islands. The PP did the same in the plenary session of the Cabildo de Lanzarote yesterday. They are playing politics with a very serious issue, and the attitude of the mayor of Arrecife is nothing more than a lack of respect for the families of Titerroy who are suffering,” concluded the spokesperson for Lanzarote En Pie.
From LEP they maintain that, “if Astrid Pérez values the work of our municipal group and has the real will to solve the problem of the residents, the first thing she should do is approve and execute the proposals that we have put on the table during this time, otherwise it is just empty words.”
