Children from the 13 unitary schools on the island that are part of the "Biosphere Schools" project, promoted by the Biosphere Reserve Office of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, participated throughout the last week in the end-of-year meetings.
From the Cabildo they explain that "Biosphere Schools" is an educational and community intervention project, which aims to "implement actions in the unitary schools of the island in order to accompany towards a sustainable school model committed to the social and environmental development of the community to which it belongs".
Another year, through this program, the Biosphere Reserve Office of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has designed and carried out together with the families, the teaching team and the town councils "the action plans of each of the participating units, which have been able to enjoy different activities".
From the Corporation they explain that in this school year "the joint outings and face-to-face meetings with the families have been resumed", in which they have been able to learn about "social, cultural and natural aspects of the environment, strengthening ties, connecting paths and experiences, knowing and recognizing the knowledge and traditions of which we are part".
Outings to Montaña Tamia, visits to the Archaeological site of Peña de Las Cucharas-Fiquinineo, sightings in the Saladar de La Santa, activities to learn about renewable energies in the Mirador de Haría and historical tours in La Casa de Los Peraza and the Aqueduct of Nazaret were some of the actions that took place.
In addition to this, to reinforce the objectives of the project with the students, the workshops "Living in a Biosphere Reserve" and the Workshops of the Sustainable Development Goals were carried out, where each center deepened and worked on one of these objectives.
To account for all this, from June 6 to this Monday the 13th, different End-of-Year Meetings were held, where the unitary schools participating in the "Biosphere Schools" project enjoyed storytelling, workshops, family games and carried out a joint evaluation of the results.
Specifically, the participating educational centers have been CEIP Las Breñas, CEIP Mararía, CEIP La Vegueta, CEIP El Cuchillo, CEIP Caleta de Famara, CEIP Soo, CEIP Güime, CEIP María Auxiliadora, CEIP Los Valles, CEIP Nazaret, CEIP Tiagua, CEIP Muñique and CEIP Tao.
