Lanzarote receives 40% fewer migrants than a year ago

Specifically, 1,361 migrants have arrived on the island in 26 precarious boats between January and May of this year.

The arrival of migrants in small boats to Lanzarote in the first five months of the year has decreased by 40% compared to the previous year. This is according to data prepared by the Lanzarote Data Center, using figures provided by the Red Cross. 

Specifically, 1,361 migrants have arrived on the island in 26 precarious boats between January and May of this year. Most of them are men. Specifically, seven out of ten arrivals to the island have been adult males.

In addition, 16% of the arrivals have been minors. 

Last year 2023, in the first five months, 50 precarious boats arrived on the island, with 2,270 occupants. Of these, 1,739 were men and 331 were male minors. In addition, there was one deceased.
