The president of the Lanzarote Island Council, Oswaldo Betancort, presented this Tuesday night in Tenerife the tenth edition of the Saborea Lanzarote Food and Wine Festival that will take place in Villa de Teguise on November 25 and 26. The space chosen for the event was the Nivaria room of the Iberostar Heritage Grand Mencey hotel in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The president of the Lanzarote Island Council highlighted that Saborea Lanzarote is presented outside the island because "for the first time" it will bring together gastronomic offers from the rest of the Archipelago, although the official call will take place on November 14 in Lanzarote. “We are talking about an event that was born in 2010 and that year after year was consolidated as a food and wine meeting forum on the island to become a fundamental part of the change of image and economic boost for Lanzarote, but also for the Canary Islands as a gastronomic and tourist destination”.

“Today we are here to present you with the most ambitious proposal, and I hope successful, of all the editions of Saborea Lanzarote. And I assure you that it is the most ambitious because this year we will set a milestone in our work to promote the gastronomy of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and in its positioning as a renowned culinary destination, and we will do so hand in hand with the sector”, highlighted the president of the Cabildo in the presentation of the event. The vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, also attended the event, who took the opportunity to ensure that the celebration of the Saborea Lanzarote Festival serves to "make homeland and allows the Canary Islands to feel like one".

Also present were the regional Minister of Agriculture, Narvay Quintero, the mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, the CACT councillor, Ángel Vázquez, the deputy mayor of Teguise, Eugenio Robayna, and the president of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, José Valle.

The role of the Centers

In addition, in this new edition the Centers for Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT) will take on a special role. As expressed by the CEO of the CACT, Ángel Vázquez, we are fulfilling the commitment of the president of the Cabildo for the event to return to Teguise. Furthermore, “it will do so with a very special staging of the Centers, which will be the spearhead to promote a festival that will show the pride and quality of the CACT restaurant network in an unprecedented exhibition space in any of the previous editions”.

This edition of Saborea Lanzarote celebrates its tenth anniversary, despite the fact that its beginnings were in 2010, and after three years without being held, it returns at the end of November "with more force than ever to the Historic Site of Villa de Teguise", the Cabildo highlighted in a note. In this town different spaces will be installed: in addition to the Canary Islands stand, there will be a Saborea España space, another Saborea Atlántico Medio space, La Casa and the Canarian Product Market and the Aula del Gusto, del Vino, del Queso and other products of the land that will have great names in national and international cuisine as guests.

The Saborea Atlántico Medio space presents Oporto as a guest city, which comes to this event with four restaurants, two of them with Michelin stars, and which will take us to discover the gastronomy of the Portuguese city, Madeira and Cape Verde will also be there with their respective cuisines, a tour of the gastronomic attributes of our closest environment.

La Casa and the Canarian Product Market is a space where you can take a tour of a wine and cheese tunnel in the Canary Islands, represented by a winery and an association of cheese makers from each island, an immersion in our gastronomic jewels. In addition, a Wine Classroom, another Cheese Classroom and another for products in general that will make those who visit us have a greater knowledge of our gastronomic culture.

The Aula del Gusto will have an intense program throughout the weekend, with more than 10 sessions and where you can count on the most prestigious faces of our national gastronomy, including the Canarian, with the Padrón Brothers, with two stars, and with Jordi Cruz, among others, with three Michelin stars.

During the 15 hours of operation of this food and wine festival in the last edition of 2019, more than 25,000 people passed through the La Villa de Teguise venue and more than 165,000 tastings were consumed, generating an income of around 220,000 euros for the more than 100 exhibitors present.

In 2019, some 70 restaurants participated, with representation from five establishments in Lisbon, ten from the Canary Islands and five national destinations, 12 wineries on the island and about six from the rest of the Canary Islands; more than 20 producers, sponsors, chefs in the classrooms, a participation that occupied the entire center of Teguise, turning it, for those two days, into the gastronomic city of Spain.

“For almost 15 years, the organizers of Saborea Lanzarote have worked tirelessly to develop the island's own gastronomy, personal, and to promote local products, the so-called kilometer zero, and our primary sector. With this we also want to achieve the objective of becoming a tourist destination of excellence”, added the president of the Cabildo.
