The Lanzarote Cabildo has approved in its Governing Council the extension of the management commission for the sociosanitary residence adjacent to the Lanzarote Insular Hospital, within the framework of the agreement signed with the Canary Islands Health Service for the integration of the hospital center into the regional healthcare system.
The approved addendum extends this management until January 1, 2027, allowing the Cabildo to continue temporarily assuming the care of the 47 residential places currently in operation, given the impossibility of transferring them to a new socio-health center that is not yet operational.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, stressed that "this extension responds to the need to ensure the continued care of the users of the residence as long as there is no alternative infrastructure that allows the transfer of the places with full guarantees".
For his part, the Minister of Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, highlighted that "the Insular Hospital residence is a resource with specialized medical personnel that allows us to care for the elderly on the island with high healthcare needs, guaranteeing continuous, comprehensive, and highly complex care." Acuña pointed out that "this level of care is the result of the geriatric care model that has been developed in Lanzarote and La Graciosa."
The extension complies with the provisions of the original agreement's clauses and does not introduce modifications to its content, being limited to extending the term of the commission. The file has favorable legal reports from the Cabildo and the Canary Islands Health Service.
The agreement will be communicated to the Plenary of the Corporation at the next ordinary session and notified to the General Secretariat of the Canary Islands Health Service, in accordance with the established administrative procedure.
