The vice president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and Minister of Public Works of the first island institution, Jacobo Medina, spoke this Wednesday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero to give an overview of the projects planned on the island for 2025 and contemplated in the draft of the new Island Plan of Ordination of Lanzarote in which the Cabildo is working.
Medina has announced that the draft of the Island Plan contemplates the creation of a motor circuit on the island. "It is a historical demand from the sports sector on the island of Lanzarote linked to motorsports," he defended on Buenos días, Lanzarote, the also general secretary of the Popular Party on the island.
This motor circuit, destined for the Rally sector, is planned to be located in the Argana area, heading towards San Bartolomé. "It's a draft, we have to study, to evaluate. We have simply been given the plan and we have presented it," he indicated.
The controversial motor circuits
The creation of a motor circuit in Tenerife, which is already under construction, has been surrounded by controversy due to the spending of more than 50 million public euros to start the works and has been pointed out by environmental groups for being a project that consumes a finite territory, such as that of the islands, with effects on the environment and archaeological heritage.
In addition, the newspaper library recalls the case of Valencia, where a motor circuit was opened, the urban Formula 1 circuit, which has been abandoned since 2012 and in which more than 92 million public euros were invested. Meanwhile, this same summer a Court declared the license of the Jarama circuit in Madrid null.
