Juan Pedro Hernández, mayor of Teguise, has rushed to deny the statements made by the socialist councilor, Noelia Umpiérez, about the alleged benefit that former prominent members of the Partido de Independientes de Lanzarote (PIL) would have obtained from the modification of the General Plan, by changing the qualification of several plots. The mayor of the municipality considers that it is an "uncertain outburst that only serves to launch suspicions without any evidence to support such a statement".
The local group of the PSOE has addressed the residents of La Villa advising them to "request truthful information regarding the contents of the PGOU, in order to avoid damages in the future", while the mayor urges Umpiérez to argue the accusation, since she has a complete copy of the current state of the General Plan, a document that was provided by the Government group and whose initial approval will be debated in the next local plenary session.
On the other hand, the socialists announce that they are already preparing an information office on this and other issues that, in their opinion, "the Government group of Juan Pedro Hernández has kept paralyzed for months or even years". According to the spokesperson for the PSC-PSOE, Noelia Umpiérrez, "we do not understand how you can act behind the backs of citizens, promise young people land and housing and then do absolutely nothing. And now we find changes in the General Plan that benefit friends, people close to the PIL and the team of defectors that governs the municipality".
Hernández, on the other hand, has "categorically denied" that the General Plan of Teguise includes "any modification that benefits them personally, and that if Umpiérez or the PSC of Teguise believes that this is not the case, let them argue their accusations of malfeasance and stop committing imprudence that only heats up the political scene and unnecessarily places our municipality back in the crosshairs of controversy".
