The PSOE candidate for mayor of Yaiza, Elena López, was presented to the residents of the municipality at an event held on Wednesday night in the tourist town of Playa Blanca.
Surrounded by a hundred colleagues and supporters, Elena López highlighted in her speech "the need to regenerate political life in the southern Consistory, affected since the early days of democracy by practices of clientelism and mismanagement".
"It is incredible that a City Council that has been one of the richest in Spain is close to bankruptcy; it is inconceivable that its offices have been cordoned off and its files confiscated by judicial order. And it cannot be repeated that while a few enrich themselves at the expense of our territory and our landscape, most of the residents suffer from deficiencies in infrastructure and basic services," he said.
The Socialist candidate for Mayor of Yaiza had, according to the party, "an exceptional godfather": the Secretary of State for Territorial Cooperation in the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Gaspar Zarrías, who closed the electoral event with words of support for the PSOE lists of Lanzarote.
The number two of the list to the Cabildo, Joaquín Caraballo, the regional deputy and candidate to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Olivia Cedrés, and the general secretary of the Socialists of Lanzarote, Carlos Espino, also spoke.
