Dimas Martín has been transferred from prison this Tuesday and has left the Tahíche prison, where he was currently serving a sentence for the agro-industrial complex case and pre-trial detention within the framework of Operation "Unión". Along with him, three other of the seven detainees and imprisoned by order of the judge investigating this case have received orders to be transferred to other Spanish prisons. Specifically, PIL councilor José Miguel Rodríguez, businessman Luis Lleó and Matías Curbelo, all of them charged with bribery (bribes).

The decision would have been adopted by Penitentiary Institutions, in agreement with Judge César Romero Pamparacuatro, ordering their transfer to the prisons of Tenerife and Gran Canaria (Salto del Negro).

Discomfort among officials

The news of the transfer of four of the detainees in the framework of Operation "Unión" became known a few hours after [the Trade Union Section of UGT in the Tahíche Penitentiary Center expressed its discomfort->28802] for the information published on the 14th in the El País newspaper, where it was indicated that Dimas Martín supposedly had a mobile phone and a laptop in his cell to direct the alleged corruption plot and collection of illegal commissions. The union came out this Monday to assure, through a press release, that this information "is absolutely false", and that "it is also totally false that the inmate Dimas met with the politicians of the island at the foot of the cell".

However, the news published by El País could have influenced the decision of Penitentiary Institutions, which would also have addressed the Tahíche Penitentiary Center asking for explanations on the matter.

In any case, sources close to the case point out that another fundamental factor taken into account by the judge is the need to separate the seven arrested for Operation "Unión". All of them are classified as FIES (Files of Interns of Special Monitoring), but they do not have incommunicado imprisonment, so it was difficult to prevent them from coinciding in Tahíche.

New statement

Before his transfer, specifically on the morning of this Monday, the historical leader of the PIL returned to the Arrecife Courts to testify before the judge. His new appearance before César Romero Pamparacuatro could be due to a request from Dimas himself, or to a decision by the magistrate, who could have requested his presence upon learning new data from the seized documentation or from the testimonies of other defendants in this operation.

Dimas Martín had already appeared before the judge shortly after his arrest, carried out in the Tahíche prison where he was serving a sentence, and he also ordered his entry into pre-trial detention, charged with the crimes of bribery and influence peddling. However, after that first statement, sources consulted by La Voz assure that there have been several occasions in which Dimas Martín has returned to the Arrecife Courts. The last one, this Monday, which took place just one day before his transfer off the island.
