Compromiso por Haría has explained in a press release that the technical report issued by the Cabildo of Lanzarote at the request of the Security and Emergencies Consortium, which reports on the state of the walkway on La Garita beach, "proves them right in the position they have maintained since the beginning of the legislature: the walkway is repairable without a large investment, and its reopening can be imminent."
Along these lines, Compromiso por Haría underlines one of the main conclusions in the report: “The closure of access to the infrastructure must be maintained until the repair of the installation is carried out. Said intervention to replace the safety elements (railing, decking, etc.) must be carried out as soon as possible; so that the action of the sea and the lack of maintenance do not continue to deteriorate the installation.”
They urge Alfredo Villalba "to stop messing around and act"
The organization argues that with the Cabildo's report, "there are no excuses not to intervene in the walkway and have it operational for the summer," considering that "the residents of Haría have already had a very necessary facility closed for too long due to the inaction of the governing group."
Furthermore, they warn that the maintenance and conservation of the walkway is the responsibility of the Haría City Council. “Enough with the shenanigans, and with the people of Haría paying for Alfredo Villalba's shameful political campaigns. The report is clear: by repairing the safety elements, the walkway must reopen. Let him not make any more excuses and let the City Council carry out an intervention to prevent the deterioration of the installation and achieve its reopening. The maintenance and conservation of the infrastructure is a municipal responsibility,” states the councilor of Compromiso por Haría, Ambrosio Viñoly.
Compromiso por Haría considers that the Cabildo's report "reveals the initial absence of arguments for the closure of the walkway," while denouncing that its closure was due to, according to the party, two reasons: "lack of political capacity and hidden interests of the pact."
“The report is unequivocal: the walkway is deteriorated due to abandonment and lack of maintenance. This can only be understood for two reasons: that Alfredo Villalba does not work for the interests of Haría, and that there is a hidden agreement between Alfredo Villalba's PSOE and their partners for the walkway not to reopen in this legislature," they point out.
In Compromiso they consider that "there is a hidden agenda of the government pact that prioritizes the desires of the councilors of these parties over those of the neighbors of Arrieta and the rest of the municipality. The rights of the citizens of Haría cannot be subordinated to the calculations and political tricks of Alfredo Villalba. We demand that this end as soon as possible. The repair and reopening of the Arrieta footbridge must be a reality imminently," concludes Viñoly.
