The Teguise City Council started a few years ago on the road to the construction of a Sports City in Costa Teguise that would house all the sports modalities that are practiced in the municipality, which has more than 20 clubs and entities, and which welcomes a sports family made up of more than 2,300 boys and girls.
"Last November, this infrastructure hosted the presentation of the Teguise sports schools, and we committed to working on a second phase of this ambitious multidisciplinary project," recalled the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, at the press conference offered this Tuesday in one of the rooms of the Costa Teguise Sports City.
"And today we are fulfilling by staging how the new commitment we acquired in the face of the demand of the large sports community of Teguise will materialize, who asked us that, in addition to providing Costa Teguise with a natural grass soccer field as you can see in these new facilities - and that our sports clubs and their visitors are already enjoying - we would achieve the construction of a Sports City," Betancort said, referring to other disciplines that are practiced and continue to grow exponentially in Teguise such as: handball, basketball, indoor soccer, judo, hapkido, skating, among others, in addition to the pending issue of building a semi-Olympic swimming pool and a lodging space for sports clubs or cultural associations that visit Teguise in competitions and/or shows.
"This is one of the most exciting commitments of this legislature and has been possible thanks to the commitment of my Government team, who together with the municipal technical staff, managed a few months ago to open the doors to a space where sports practice is concentrated, a unique space in the Canary Islands, designed with special attention to the visual impact, with volcanic stone throughout its construction, respecting the landscape and the environment as you can see," he added.
Oswaldo Betancort, accompanied by the Councilor for Contracting, Olivia Duque, and the head of the entity to which this commission is destined, the Public Mercantile Society for Territorial and Environmental Management and Planning, S.A. (Gesplan), Agoney Piñero, sealed the signature by which the drafting of the preliminary draft of the installation will be formalized, which will give rise to the drafting of the basic and execution project of the sports center that will be built on an estimated area of 8,250 m2, for which there will be a budget amounting to the amount of 310,500 euros.
