The island secretary of the PSOE of Lanzarote and number one on the list to Congress for the province of Las Palmas, María Dolores Corujo, has announced that the Council of Ministers held this Thursday has authorized the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITERD) to proceed with the granting of a subsidy nominally foreseen in the General State Budgets for the year 2023 to the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands to finance investments in actions related to the integral water cycle, for an amount of 20,000,000 euros, in accordance with the provisions of article 10.2 of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General of Subsidies (LGS).
As stated in the Council's agreement, the purpose of the subsidy is to improve the security of supply and the improvement of the sanitation and purification system in the islands of Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, La Palma and Fuerteventura, allowing in certain cases the reuse of water through its regeneration.
"Lanzarote has managed to get the Government of Spain to subsidize the expansion of the Playa Blanca WWTP," said Corujo, who explained that the subsidy will be used for the expansion of the Playa Blanca WWTP and aims to unify the treatment of wastewater from the entire population center in a single facility, except for the waters of the Montaña Roja Partial Plan, as it is located at a certain distance from the other urban developments of the municipality and already has a purification facility in service. The population benefited is 75,864 inhabitants.
"With this action, which adds to the agreements with Acuaes that we left signed and with financing, ready to execute, Lanzarote takes an important step in terms of having the appropriate purification infrastructures and thus put an end to the discharges that have been occurring repeatedly due to the lack of investment from previous governments," Corujo concluded.
