The legal representation of the workers of Comisiones Obreras de Lanzarote in the public company Tecnologías Y Servicios Agrarios, S.A. (Tragsatec) has denounced the "abandonment" of the Ministry of Fisheries in a press release issued on Monday afternoon and has warned that it will "affect the conservation" of the La Graciosa Marine Reserve, one of the largest in Europe.

In this sense, it has denounced "the cuts made" by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food in the budget for the work carried out by Tragsatec, linked to the conservation of marine reserves.

From this Trade Union Section they have reported that they have been notified through the company of a budget cut in the specifications that is entrusted to said public company. Specifically, to The provision of Marine Reserves services August 2025 – March 2026 that affects the Network of Reserves of Spain, and in particular in the Canary Islands to the Marine Reserves of La Graciosa and the Marine Reserve of La Palma.

"The cut that the Ministry applies, lowers the budget of the public company by half, which will begin from the reliable communication of the order to TRAGSATEC until March 31, 2026," according to representatives of the trade union section of Comisiones Obreras. Thus, it has stated that these cuts will mean a reduction "by half" of the personnel in charge of preserving said marine reserve "and makes it impossible to carry out conservation work" as it has been done on the islands that Tragsatec now manages.

In this sense, they have denounced that "if before we already had in some cases minimum personnel in two crews, which had to cover each other during vacations or sick leave, in addition to carrying out extra hours for the good service of the reserves, now it is diminished by leaving only one crew".

The union has warned that in the La Graciosa marine reserve there are currently two crews operating "covering a wide time slot", while the cuts will force the crews to only 7.5 hours of daily operation, "thus affecting both the employment of personnel and the quality of the service itself".
