The spokesman for the Canarian Coalition (CC) in the Tías City Council, Amado Vizcaíno, has expressed his "deep concern" about the alarming crime data published by the Ministry of the Interior corresponding to the first quarter of 2025. The figures confirm a notable increase in insecurity in the municipality, which registers a 12.6% increase in criminal offenses compared to the same period of the previous year, placing it above Arrecife and Teguise.
"While other municipalities such as Arrecife and Teguise reduce their crime, Tías not only goes in the opposite direction, but does so at an alarming rate. We are the municipality of more than 20,000 inhabitants with the worst data in all of Lanzarote, and that has those responsible with names and surnames," said Vizcaíno.
The disaggregated data reflect an even more worrying panorama: 22% increase in conventional crimes; 233.3% increase in burglaries; 200% increase in robberies with force in establishments and other facilities; 25% increase in robberies with violence and intimidation; 27% growth in thefts; 166.7% escalation in serious and less serious crimes of injuries and tumultuous fights.
"That the number of robberies in homes and businesses shoots up by more than 200% should set off all the alarms. However, while residents suffer this escalation, the mayor seems more concerned with posting photos on social networks than with adopting effective measures. A false sense of security is sold that the data categorically denies," criticizes the CC spokesman.
Vizcaíno attributes this deterioration of citizen security to the "apathy and ineptitude" of the current government group, which he accuses of "dedicating more to generating division within the Local Police force itself than to supporting and reinforcing its work."
"The mayor has fostered an unnecessary confrontation between agents and citizens for years, and even between the police themselves, under the old strategy of 'divide and conquer'. But what he has achieved is the opposite: the unity of a police force that, despite the difficulties, stands up for this municipality every day. The least he should do is support them, not criticize or point them out when they are on leave or need more resources," adds Vizcaíno.
The Canarian Coalition in Tías demands that the mayor and his team assume their responsibility and adopt immediate and effective measures to reverse this worrying situation. "It's time to move from photos to action. The safety of our neighbors cannot wait any longer," concludes Vizcaíno.
