"Pedro San Ginés' resignation is not an option." That is the message that six of the Coalición Canaria councilors in the Cabildo wanted to convey this Monday, who have acknowledged being "very concerned" about the minority situation of the government group.
In a press conference, first Marci Acuña and then Luis Arráez insisted that neither San Ginés nor "his character" are the cause of this problem. In addition, Arráez has praised the qualities he sees in San Ginés, highlighting his "courage," his "bravery," his "decision," his "principles," and even that "he has a heart too big for his body."
In his speech, Luis Arráez went so far as to say that Pedro San Ginés is "the best president the Cabildo has undoubtedly had" and said that "we should feel proud." In addition, he pointed out, "personally," that behind the attitude of Mónica Álvarez and Sergio Machín there are other people from Coalición Canaria, and although he has not given names, he has made several allusions to the mayor of Haría, José Torres Stinga.
"The issue is not to get rid of Pedro San Ginés, it is to take control of Coalición Canaria in Lanzarote," said Arráez, who went so far as to point out, insisting that he was doing it only in his name, that "if certain people had not been in CC today, if the party had made the decisions it had to make in its day, this would not have happened."
In addition, he insisted that if San Ginés really resigned from the presidency, "they would then ask for Marci's (Acuña) head" and finally even that of the general secretary of CC in Lanzarote, David de la Hoz, "for letting a president resign."
"It seems we are on a pink island"
Insisting on the criticisms that many make of the president's "character," Luis Arráez exclaimed: "It seems we are on a pink island," referring to the statements of Sergio Machín and Mónica Álvarez. "That I'm leaving because I don't get along, or because I don't like him..."
For her part, Marci Acuña recalled that San Ginés was chosen as a candidate for the presidency of the Cabildo by the party's bodies "and he has the same character now as he did then." In addition, on behalf of the six councilors who attended that press conference (Acuña, Arráez and David de la Hoz at the table, and Francisco Fabelo, Carmen Steinert and Migdalia Machín among the public) that they have "no complaints about the relationship with Pedro."
According to her, the president "lets things happen" and acts as a coordinator." "He has character, yes, but it is an added value," she added, defending the relationship they maintain despite the fact that sometimes "voices are raised."
Call for "responsibility"
As for how they intend to deal with the minority situation of the government group, the CC councilors have made a "call for responsibility," both from Sergio Machín and Mónica Álvarez and from the opposition parties. "That they have the vision to at least get the transcendental issues out," Acuña asked.
Thus, she pointed out that they are still confident that they can redirect the situation with the two dissenting CC councilors, although she acknowledged that there is currently no dialogue with them and assured that they do not even "know very well what the reason is" why they have adopted this attitude.
As for the rest of the groups, she pointed out that they are already holding conversations with the entire opposition, although she assured that it is only to seek specific support on certain issues. "Any contact that is made will be with the approval of the PSOE," added Luis Arráez, insisting that "as long as the PSOE wants," they will maintain the pact with the socialists until the end of the legislature.
Fewer issues will go to the Plenary and will be approved in the Governing Council
