Coalición Canaria and the Socialist Party concluded today the first of their meetings for the possible formation of a government pact, with the message that there has been some progress between both parties to generate a climate of mutual trust, but that it will be necessary to continue talking about the program, common objectives, and the Statute of Autonomy next week.

There was no talk of distribution of positions or the presidency, in a meeting in which Hernández Spínola thanked the nationalists for the "constructive and sincere" climate and stated that the PSC is in favor of an "ambitious" Statute that expands self-government. CC, for its part, admitted that the climate of trust between the two has improved after a few "difficult" previous days, and its spokesperson, José Miguel Barragán, said that "there is a possibility of an open pact, and proof of this is manifested in the fact that the meetings continue."

Thus, the first meeting between the negotiating committees of PSOE and CC ended with a "positive" atmosphere and progress in understanding programmatic issues, essentially social ones, after discussing aspects such as health, education, or social services. CC and PSOE concluded that there may be understanding in this "social agenda", in a meeting in which they also discussed the REF and its upcoming regulations, the European Constitution, security, immigration, and issues raised by CC such as population growth or the possibility of favoring the creation of employment that prioritizes Canary residents, a pillar of the nationalist electoral campaign.

The five negotiators from the PSOE and the five from CC were gathered at the Hotel NH Imperial Playa in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria for more than three hours, and left the meeting announcing a new meeting for next week, in which the socialists will offer concrete questions about the Statute and its approval in Madrid.
