The Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands have agreed to the fourth addendum and extension of the cooperation agreement between both institutions for the provision of services to people in situations of dependency and, in general, to children under six years of age, the elderly or people with disabilities.
The island president, María Dolores Corujo, has emphasized that this signature means cementing "an important sustained financial increase this term and achieving the effective care of 800 dependent people this year 2023. The goal is to end the waiting list in Lanzarote and La Graciosa during this same year," she clarifies.
Corujo confirms that the island of Lanzarote will have "a record investment in dependency matters that will amount to 21 million euros during the next twelve months", of which 17 million euros are contributed by the Department of Social Rights of the regional Executive and 4 million by the Cabildo. "The increase in economic items during these last four years has been exponential in order to face an endemic problem that we want to solve; going from 9.2 million euros allocated in 2018 to 21 million euros that will be executed this year," details the president.
More services to more users
The investment effort of the new addendum that comes into force will be reflected in services such as the promotion of personal autonomy, home care and telecare. Specifically, according to official figures, the number of telecare users will reach 194 places, while in the promotion of personal autonomy a total of 203,520 hours of service will be covered. And in the home help service, 232,200 hours will be facilitated by this new economic injection.
With the 21,071,771.03 euros that the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Government of the Canary Islands will allocate to dependency in 2023 (in 2022 it was 16,758,242.37 euros), the aim is to serve 800 dependent people and manage to end the waiting list for the provision of services.
