The Secretary of Organization of Somos Lanzarote, Borja Rubio, has accused the councilor and party spokesperson in the Cabildo, Tomás López, of having undertaken "a personal revenge" against his own colleagues, after having lost the vote in the assembly that decided to go to the next elections in coalition with Nueva Canarias. "If you allow me the advice, I would earnestly ask you to stop this campaign of defamation against colleagues from Somos Lanzarote, against the political party in which he was militating and against those of us who are part of this political project, of which he is a participant from minute zero," Rubio has claimed.
The Arrecife councilor has also referred to the challenge that López made to that vote -which has already been dismissed by the party's Guarantees Commission- as well as to the letter he sent a few days ago to the president of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, informing him of an alleged absence from his job of the Somos administrative assistant in the Cabildo, Paula Corujo.
"If Paula Corujo thought the same as Tomás López in the vote on January 30, this information would not have been passed on to Pedro San Ginés. No one can escape that this is a truth. What Tomás López is looking for with this issue is a vendetta against Paula Corujo for not thinking like him or for not defending what he defended," said Borja Rubio, who also emphasizes that by sending that letter to San Ginés, the councilor took "a unilateral decision" and "without going through any Somos Lanzarote body."
"With this he benefits Coalición Canaria"
"With this he benefits Coalición Canaria, harms a colleague from Somos Lanzarte and puts in the hands of a president of the Cabildo with whom we have been battling throughout the legislature a human resource that belongs solely and exclusively to Somos Lanzarote," stressed the Secretary of Organization of the party.
In addition, he believes that this has been one more step within a "campaign of defamation" in which he considers that the media of Juan Francisco Rosa has also had "an important role", who first positioned himself in the Podemos primaries to the Cabildo in favor of the candidacy of Nona Perera and then advocated for the confluence of Somos with the purple formation, publishing news in which Borja Rubio himself and the alliance with NC were questioned.
"This is a campaign of defamation and discredit that only benefits the parties that currently govern, such as Coalición Canaria and the PP. First it was against me, then against the organization and now in the last throes against another colleague," warned Borja Rubio.
Message to Podemos and Nona Perera
Similarly, the leader of the assembly formation has also sent a message to Podemos, after the statements made by its candidate to the Cabildo, Nona Perera, questioning the decision adopted by the Somos assembly and stating that the party "has made a mistake." "It is an absolute lack of respect for Somos and its internal decisions," Rubio questioned.
In addition, he added that Perera's statements also imply "a lack of vision in the medium term." And it is that although there is no prior coalition for the elections, Somos does aspire to "understand each other" with Podemos after the elections, in view of a possible government pact. "It is important that we do not burn bridges or shoot in bursts," Rubio warned.
Regarding the departure of his party from that confluence table, he believes that the decision adopted by the Somos members was influenced by the internal problems of Podemos, as well as "their ways" in that negotiation. "He intended to be the hegemonic force in that coalition and take the lead, and the facts show that he is not in a position to be on an equal footing with the rest of the organizations," he added.
"He will know what he has to do, but he must do it as soon as possible"
Regarding the political future of Tomás López, who in theory should be the head of the list to the Cabildo in that confluence with NC, Rubio has defended that the councilor must make a decision "as soon as possible" and has recalled the changes of position he has been having. "Two years ago he abandoned any organic position and stopped coming to the Somos Lanzarote assemblies. Then, when the elections were approaching, he returned to attend the general assemblies. Before that he said in several media outlets that he was not going to run for elections, then later he understood that he had to run for the Somos primaries and I myself showed him my support and the Somos general assembly did so," he recalled.
However, "after being elected he said that his body did not ask him to lead the candidacy, but that in any case he would participate in a list of confluence that the Somos members had not yet voted on. And then in the last instance, as the agreement he wanted with Podemos did not come out but the one with NC did, he says that he is considering it. I cannot tell him what he has to do, but it is clear that this behavior does not seem serious or coherent to me. He will know what he has to do, but he obviously has to do it as soon as possible," claimed the Secretary of Organization.
Regarding the possibility that Tomás López ends up being a candidate in the confluence in which Podemos and Izquierda Unida are still working, Rubio has not ruled it out. "Man, if that happened, many things would be understood. The objectives and what has been pursued with all this scandal that has been generated with these claims and these challenges would be understood. If Tomás López finally participates as an independent in that electoral coalition with Podemos and IU, it would be clearly seen that the objectives of the claims, of the unfounded challenges, were aimed at defaming Somos Lanzarote."
