The Arrecife City Council announces the bidding for the drafting of the project for the "regeneration" of the Charco de San Ginés, which aims primarily, according to the Consistory, to "end discharges into the sea and regenerate the seabed and coastline of this emblematic area of the capital".

From the City Council they detail that since December 3rd, the "drafting of the study of alternatives and project to recover the seabed and the coastline of this unique space of Arrecife" is in bidding on the public sector contracting platform, with the requirement that the person or persons responsible for the award are "in possession of the qualification of Civil Engineer, Channels and Ports and/or Technical Engineer of Public Works or similar".

The mayor of Arrecife, Astrid Pérez, has welcomed with satisfaction "this first step to provide a solution to the Charco de San Ginés because it will allow us to use European funds to carry out works that improve the water quality of the Charco and its environmental wealth".

From the City Council they add that the contract for the drafting of the project, with a budget of 45,946.08 euros, "is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the framework of the Sustainable Urban Development Strategy Conurban Azul of the Sustainable Growth Operational Program 2014-2020 and the Cabildo de Lanzarote", and has a preparation period of "two months, extendable by one more".

The actions that the study must reflect, which Arrecife points out will be awarded by open procedure, "aim to improve the seabed and coastline of the Charco de San Gines with a prior study of the seabed to know its condition, in addition to the closure of all the black spots that flow into it, such as the sanitation networks or domestic connections, the reconstruction of the wall that delimits it and its exhaustive cleaning".

A project in two phases

From the Arrecife City Council they explain that, initially, the project must include "a technical report in which the detailed diagnosis on the environmental problem and landscape improvement of the seabed and the coastline of the Charco de San Ginés is established"

In this document, which will be incorporated into the final project, object of the bidding, will also point out "the alternatives in terms of possible actions and estimated budget allocation, contemplating a study of currents, possible urban planning effects, study of seabeds with sampling, description of the restoration of the wall that delimits the Charco, study of the closure of the hydraulic sanitation networks that flow into the Charco, among other reports".

And already, in the second phase, from the City Council they explain that the "final project" will be elaborated, taking into account the guidelines marked by the administration, which must include "the concrete measures for the recovery of the seabed and the coastline, respecting the budgetary limits marked by the project within the FEDER funds, since depending on the amount of these funds, priorities for action will be established, but already having a project that serves as a guide for subsequent interventions".
