Famara beach can be used by bathers "completely", although areas have been limited for the practice of water sports. "Individuals can use all areas, under their responsibility. It is not prohibited", explained the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort, after definitively approving the beach ordinance of the municipality of Teguise.
This regulation defines the uses on the beaches, the number of hammocks that can be placed on them, exclusively in Costa Teguise, the maritime corridors for entry and exit of nautical elements, the exclusive bathing areas and the preferred areas for surf schools or kite practice.
According to the mayor, the use of Famara beach, which was surrounded by controversy, "has been agreed with the caleteros, surf schools, windsurfing and kitesurfing, among other entities." "The ordinance is an agreement that benefits all parties," he indicated. The Councilor for Beaches of the Teguise City Council, Eugenio Robayna, reported that "this regulation has just been definitively approved, after studying, estimating or answering the thirty allegations that the ordinance had in its initial approval."
The beaches that are governed by this regulation are Las Cucharas, Bastián, El Ancla, El Jablillo, Los Charcos and Famara. Regarding the coast of Costa Teguise, the use and enjoyment remains practically the same, except that "two nautical corridors have been created for the entry and exit of boats or athletes, on Las Cucharas Beach and Los Charcos Beach". In the latter, kitesurfing will not be allowed either.
Famara Beach
Where the most modifications have been registered is on Famara beach. "The entire beach can be used by bathers, including the areas that are used for kitesurfing, land fishing and surf schools. These sections can also be enjoyed by swimmers, only under their responsibility," he indicated. "On the other hand, the spaces that have been specified for bathers are exclusive," he said.
He also indicated that a new use has been added that was not contemplated, which is for land fishing. This practice can be carried out in "El Rincón", from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m., the hours that do not affect bathers.
Fines of up to 3,000 euros
Eugenio Robayna indicated that this regulation also has a "fiscal part" and that if it is not complied with there will be sanctions. Minor offenses are up to 750 euros, serious offenses up to 1,500 euros and very serious offenses up to 3,000 euros.
"It is a minor offense to have dogs on the beach, have a barbecue, invade the bathing area, among others. An example of a serious offense is bathing when the red flag is raised or fixing fish. Finally, among the very serious offenses, it is specified to carry out spills and deposits of materials that may cause contamination and risk of accidents; as well as any impact on the fauna and flora of both the coast and marine areas," said the councilor.
